VN – US Relationship after 15 year normalization
partnership, friendship, development, comprehensive
cooperation towards future.
15 years ago, United States President Bill Clinton and Vietnamese
Prime Minitser Vo Van Kiet declared the formal normalization of
diplomatic relation between two nations, putting aside the past and
opened a new chapter in two nations’ histories.
With continuous [on-going] effort of the two governments and people,
bilateral and multilateral partnership have evolved. It has brought two
nations many practical benefits, and contributing to maintain peace,
security, stability, cooperation and development in Asia Pacific and
Southeast Asia.
Economic cooperation and commercial cooperation have been very
successful, specially since the bilateral trade agreement came [put/
took] into force from 2001.
Two economies have many supplementary fields [section], with
the focus on the establishment of legal foundation [framework].
Bilateral trade reached just over $400 milion in 1995 and $15.6 bilion
in 2009. Even in 2009, Viet nam was considered to be one of the
most successful exporters to the US, while global economy and US
economy suffered from [fell into] crisis
Bilateral cooperation in the field of education and training, science
and technology has achieved [gained/obtained] many positive
progress. The number of Vietnamese student studing in United States
has increased considerably. Two sides have boosted [promoted]
cooperation to build an international standard university with advanced
materials and methods of training.
In recent years, nuclear technology has became a potential field
of cooperation. Many American corporations with world leading of
nuclear power technology, expressed interest in the development of
nuclear power in Viet Nam.
